Dispose of roofing felt (Europe-wide)

W u W Wertstoff und Wastehandel GmbH is a company that has been active in the field of waste disposal throughout Europe for over 20 years.

We offer the professional disposal of roofing felt (whether containing tar or bitumen). This is used by us preferentially as high-quality substitute fuel for the industrial co-incineration. Tar board and bitumen sheets are used almost equally in thermal processes.

Roofing felt belongs to hazardous waste and must not simply be disposed of with household waste.

Differentiation between tar-bearing and bitumen-bearing roofing felt

Before disposal, an analysis of the roofing felt is carried out using the so-called EPA method. In this way it can be determined how many carcinogenic and thus dangerous PAH compounds (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) are present. If there is no proof or if the PAH content exceeds 100 mg/kg dry weight, the roofing felt is tarred and therefore classified as "coal tar and tarred products" (AS 170303). It is then a hazardous waste.

Roofing felt containing less than 100 mg/kg dry weight is assigned to the waste type "Bitumen mixtures other than those mentioned in 170301" (AS 170302). It is then non-hazardous waste.

Acceptance conditions (waste quality)

  • No adhesion of polystyrene + asbestos
  • Proof by means of expert opinions that the material is free of asbestos fibres (must be submitted prior to delivery)
